Case Study 1 – Pre-Acquisition Due Diligence
As we have entered 2022, it felt like the previous year had rapidly come and gone. Similarly, the speed of technological development has been nothing short of lively.
I-OnAsia’s dedicated efforts to incorporate new cyber capabilities into our investigative work has increased exponentially. This is evidenced by the successful introduction and use of our in house cyber analysis capability, Heat Seeker .
Heat Seeker is an extremely rapid, time-effective, and comprehensive tool that allows us to initiate an investigation into a target’s physical, brick and mortar locations and expand the same to his entire digital footprint, including, but not limited to, his Internet (World Wide Web and Dark Web), electronic (e-mail and phone) and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc) activity.

Heat Seeker has enhanced the delivery of our core services; it has no boundaries and is language specific; it provides initial cyber-insights into cross border investigations, financial investment analysis of interested parties, fraud investigations and background checks, to name just a few. This niche capability is giving litigators, transactional solicitors, chief security officers (CSO’s) and in-house counsel an improved reach and understanding into areas of investigation and due diligence.
One of the greatest achievements of Heat Seeker is its graphic visualisations, which allow clients to see how targets are linked to corporations or social media accounts.
Over the next few weeks, we will present five short case studies that demonstrate the impact Heat Seeker has had on our ability to provide our clients with even greater insights into investigations.
Case Study 1 – Pre-Acquisition Due Diligence
I-OnAsia was recently instructed on a large pre-acquisition, due diligence investigation to support a client’s contemplated USD300,000,000 transaction.
Employing Heat Seeker in our initial investigation allowed our team to identify a vast number of corporate structures and their shareholders, which formed the basis of our deeper understanding of the risks involved in the planned transaction.
By searching globally for entities, we quickly provided essential insights into the pass success and failures of the target while identifying conflicts of interest, possible sanctions being faced by incoming management and the overall impact in the event the transaction came to fruition.
Heat Seeker was equally effective in identifying and analysing the social media backgrounds of the target, which was fundamental to understanding the potential reputational risk inherent in the possible transaction.
If this is something that could assist you in the deep analysis of transactional work globally, please feel free to contact us today to learn more about how this system is supporting our clients globally.
